New this year – Five story Christmas Tree animated to holiday music McDonald’s Holiday Lights at the Beach Goes Green
View over 250 animated nautical and holiday-themed light displays along the Virginia Beach boardwalk…festive fish, jumping dolphins, frolicking porpoises…all illuminated by thousands of tiny colored lights. Sailboats gently rocking in the wind and mermaids calling out to “landlubbers” complete the nautical theme of this unique light display! Add to this a surfing Santa, giant gift-wrapped packages, and new this year, a five story Christmas Tree animated to music at the 2nd street entrance. It’s easy to see why over 100,000 visitors each year enjoy McDonald’s Holiday Lights at the Beach, presented by Verizon Wireless. Beginning a new tradition at The Loop, just before the 2nd Street entrance, a five story Christmas Tree will be animated to music offering visitors an audio-visual holiday experience before they enter the show. Enjoy hot chocolate from our roaming staff while you are entertained! McDonald’s Holiday Lights at the Beach Goes Green…All 4,700+ bulbs in this year’s Christmas Tree have been replaced and updated to LED bulbs. This changeover will not only enhance the appearance of the tree but will use less than ¼ of the power that the original bulbs would have required. Other displays that have been updated to LED for 2008 include the Elf Tossing Arch at 25th Street, the Shark at 4th Street and assorted small displays located throughout the show. Please enjoy the “sounds of the season” from the Virginia Beach Public schools with choir performances starting Thursday, December 4th through Saturday, December 13th. Two performances every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 6:30pm at the 2nd Street entrance. McDonald’s Holiday Lights at the Beach, Presented by Verizon Wireless, has been named one of the Southeast Tourism Society’s “Top 20 November Events” for several years! This “Fanta-Sea” of lights is sure to dazzle and amaze holiday revelers! Each year the order of light displays is changed to help create a new and fresh experience for visitors.
